Find a plumber for the repair you actually need

A tap that keeps dripping, a toilet that will not flush and a cylinder that has started leaking need different parts and different checks. GetPlumbingQuotes.co.uk helps homeowners and landlords across the UK describe the problem once and request up to four quotations from independent local plumbing businesses.

Matching depends on the job, postcode and available plumbers. You may receive fewer than four replies. There is no charge to use the enquiry service and no obligation to accept a quote.

From the enquiry to a written price

  1. Explain what you can see. Include the location of the fault, when it happens and whether water is still escaping.
  2. Speak to available plumbers. A business covering your postcode may ask for photos, a part number or an appointment to inspect the problem.
  3. Check the proposed repair. Compare the parts, labour, access work, timing and total price before choosing a contractor.

Small repairs and larger replacement jobs

Water Tanks and Cylinders

Loft cisterns, vented and unvented cylinders, thermal stores, damaged connections and replacement controls. Capacity, heat source and removal access all matter when a vessel needs replacing.

Taps, Leaks and Overflows

Tap washers and ceramic cartridges, leaking copper or plastic joints, waste traps and overflow faults. Say whether water escapes continuously or only when a fitting is used.

Ball Valves and Stopcocks

Float valves that fail to shut off, stiff stopcocks and missing local isolation valves. The plumber needs a safe way to shut off the supply before changing a faulty valve.

Toilet Flush Repairs

Flush valves, syphon diaphragms, fill valves, buttons, cables and levers. Mention concealed cisterns and any sign that the problem is in the waste pipe rather than the cistern.

Showers and Shower Pump Repairs

Mixer cartridges, restricted filters, weak flow, temperature swings and failed or noisy pumps. A replacement pump must suit the hot and cold supplies, not just fit the available space.

Immersion Heaters

Failed elements, thermostats, cut-outs and associated controls. The work needs the right combination of plumbing and electrical skills, particularly where a cylinder must be drained.

Help the plumber identify the part

You do not need to diagnose the fault. A photo of the whole tap, flush plate or pump, with a second photo of any accessible label, is useful. Describe whether you have a combi boiler or a separate hot water cylinder and whether other outlets are affected. Do not remove electrical covers to find a model number.

Access can change a small job. A concealed cistern may need a service panel opened, a bath leak may sit behind boxing and a loft tank may not fit through the hatch. Mention those details before the visit, along with shared entrances or parking restrictions.

Compare what each price includes

A cheap cartridge and a complete replacement tap are different proposals. Ask why the plumber recommends one over the other and whether compatible spare parts are available. For cylinders, pumps and immersion heaters, get the replacement specification in writing.

  • Check call-out and diagnostic charges before agreeing to a visit.
  • Ask whether parts, labour and VAT are included in the total.
  • Agree who handles electrical work, access panels, disposal and making good.
  • Confirm how additional faults will be explained and priced before work continues.
  • Keep the invoice, product details and any guarantee or commissioning documents.

The free-quotes page gives indicative ranges for all six services. Complicated access, premium parts and urgent attendance may take a job outside those ranges.

Who you are hiring

Businesses joining the network are asked for relevant insurance details and references. Before you book, check current insurance, experience of the repair and any qualifications the job needs.

GetPlumbingQuotes.co.uk introduces the enquiry. We do not employ the plumbers or carry out their work. The chosen business agrees the visit, advice, price, contract and payment directly with you. Unvented cylinders and electrical faults need suitable competence; a general plumbing enquiry is not evidence of those skills.

If water is escaping now

This is a quotation service, not an emergency call-out line. If safe, use an accessible working isolation valve and keep clear of wet electrical equipment. Arrange urgent help directly when the leak cannot be controlled. Do not wait for online quotations while water continues to escape.

Start with the fault, not the technical name

“The cistern keeps refilling” or “the pump starts when nobody is using the shower” gives a plumber something useful to investigate. Add your postcode and send the enquiry when you are ready to compare responses.
